IDM - Digital Identity Management: FAQs

On this page you will find the frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the Digital Identity Management (IDM) system.

For issues related to student accounts, please contact the Infostud first-level helpdesk through the ticketing platform or by email at infostud@uniroma1.it.

Which credentials do I need to access the online university services?

Digital services can be accessed with SPID, CIE or with university credentials (username of the type [nome.cognome@uniroma1.it] for staff, student ID number and Infostud password for students).
From June 9th, student access will have to take place, with a few exceptions, through SPID/CIE.
Please note: DO NOT store links to the login page on your PC or on the devices you use.

Any bookmarks or other stored resources must point to the web addresses of the services, for example:
●    U-GOV https://www.uniroma1.u-gov.it/u-gov/
●    U-Web (Online payslip) https://uniroma1.cineca.it/
●    Iris https://iris.uniroma1.it/ (the possibility of accessing Iris from U-GOV remains valid)
●    Elearning (Moodle): https://elearning.uniroma1.it/ (direct link to SSO login)
●    Uniroma1 email (NO students) https://www.uniroma1.it/en/pagina/email-google-apps
●    StartWeb https://www.uniroma1.it/it/pagina/presenze
●    Zoom https://infosapienza.web.uniroma1.it/it/zoom-meeting-la-comunit-accademica (direct link to SSO login)
●    Titulus (IT Protocol) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titulus_Crucis

Please note that university credentials in the uniroma1 domain expire after 180 days in accordance with the university's password policy.

How can I check my IDM profile?

IDM is gradually integrating the various profiles for University services.
Login, password change and reset functionalities are available to all University users/identities.
As of June 9, the same functionalities are also managed for student accounts. Any peculiarities due to partially "legacy" profiles or initial conditions have been promptly communicated to those concerned.
IDM now fully manages (credentials, profile, life cycle and ownership of digital identity) for teaching and TAB staff, research fellows, collaborators, tutors and native language teachers. These users, upon accessing the IdM dashboard, will see their roles (including any last ceased role), self-services, and a list of services they are authorized for (not all applications under centralized IdM authentication display links in this section).
As of June 9, IDM has started managing students (credentials, digital identity ownership and progressive management of profiles and life cycles).
From the dashboard, only 'self' services are currently available. Services connected to the life cycle will be progressively added and exposed.  All other users are to be considered "legacy" profiles. The only dashboard function available for these identities is password change.
Finally, there are partially "legacy" profiles, such as doctoral students (whose employee identity is legacy, while the student identity is managed in IdM). They have full operativity as students.

How can I change my password or recovery email on IdM?

To change your password, log in to IDM and navigate to the menu User → Password.
If you do not remember your old password, you will need to reset it.

Updating the recovery e-mail should be done, after logging in, from the IdM dashboard through the menu item User -> Settings.

Please note: The IdM system recovery email address is the address to which password reset information is sent and does not necessarily coincide with the e-mail address registered in Infostud. Changing or updating the e-mail address on the Infostud system does not change or update the recovery e-mail field on the IdM system (and viceversa).

Note: After saving (password change), check that the message at the top of the page confirms the operation was successful. The output will provide information about updated accounts/systems.

Here is what the information means:
●    A line with no indication in parentheses, showing matriculation number, IDM username, uniroma1 email, or other identifiers, indicates successful updating on IDM. This line appears for all “non-legacy profiles”.
●    A line like "name.surname@uniroma1.it (legacy)" indicates the update has propagated to the legacy email authentication system, typically used for uniroma1 accounts not yet under centralized Ateneo IdM authentication.
●    A line like "matriculation number (students)" indicates the update has propagated to the legacy student system (used, for example, for wifi).
●    A line like "matriculation number (IDM)" indicates that the matriculation number does not exist on the legacy student system but only on IDM.

I don't remember my password

If you have provided a private email for recovery, request a reset at https://idm.uniroma1.it/landing/#/reset/request.
If you have NOT provided a private email for recovery (or you need to change the one you provided) and have a non-"legacy" profile (see "How can I check my IDM profile?"):
●    If you have SPID or CIE, log in to IDM using one of these methods, set your private email (User → Settings), and request a reset from the link above;
●    If you do NOT have SPID or CIE, write to identity.infosapienza@uniroma1.it, providing your private email for recovery and attaching a copy of a valid ID.

If you have NOT provided a private email for recovery and have a "legacy" profile, write to recuperopassword@uniroma1.it, attaching a copy of your ID and indicating a private email to be registered for the reset.

I have multiple accounts associated with my identity. How can I manage the preferences for the 'Work As” function?

The 'Work As' function allows you to select one of your available accounts to access systems. On the same screen, you can save preferences such as 'don't ask again'. The description of this functionality and additional utilities are available on the RELEVANT page. The function uses technical cookies to store your preferences.

Note: The 'Work As' option is not available for all applications (e.g., it is excluded from Cedolino and IDM)."

In the 'Work As' section, I am shown incorrect, outdated or old student accounts that I am no longer interested in. What should I do?

The group of student accounts considered 'active' is not determined by the department responsible for the IDM application and is not under the jurisdiction of this helpdesk.
If you find clearly incorrect or withdrawn (i.e., replaced) student accounts associated with your name, please contact the InfoStud helpdesk (infostud@uniroma1.it).
Accounts with careers that ended many years ago cannot be excluded at this time because the 'expanded' work model allows access to certain applications for users who are simply registered. Therefore, it is normal to see these accounts listed. You can minimize their impact almost to zero by using the preferences in the 'Work As' section.

I am currently unable to access via SPID/CIE as required for my account. How can I proceed?

If you encounter a technical issue with your SPID provider or an SPID error on uniroma1 pages, such as "Credenziali sospese o revocate" (Credentials suspended or revoked) you should contact your SPID provider.
If you are waiting for the renewal of your (only) identification document or have similar issues preventing access via SPID/CIE, you can contact your administrative office. After appropriate verification, they can grant you temporary access using your student ID number and password."

I'm having trouble accessing an application, how can I resolve this?

To avoid login errors when accessing an application, please follow these steps:

  • Always enter your username in full (e.g., mario.rossi@uniroma1.it or your student ID number).
  • Ensure your password is entered correctly.
  • Verify that the application's URL is correct: do not use saved links on your computer or links that directly point to the login page.

Below are examples of correct URLs for some services:

If the login error persists after checking these details, please contact identity.infosapienza@uniroma1.it

Please note, this helpdesk provides support only for login issues related to applications using the IDM system.

The login was successful but I am encountering issues in subsequent steps, what should I do?

If you experience technical problems after logging in, please contact the support service provided by the application you are using. To expedite assistance, along with describing the issue, it's advisable to include a screenshot of the error message.

Below are the contacts for various applications:

I need a uniroma1.it account, how can I request it?

You can request the activation of a uniroma1.it account associated with an institutional email by filling out this form.

The automated process for creating uniroma1 accounts will soon be implemented; for now, the automated procedure is being tested exclusively for PhD candidates.

I can't see my payroll slips on U-Web

Payroll slips are displayed only after processing by the relevant office. Please first check with this entity (such as your RAD or Payroll Office) about the situation on U-GOV.

Here is the link to the technical documentation for U-GOV functionalities used by RADs.

For central administration, contact settoreadempimenti.arcofig@uniroma1.it.

If the issue persists after verification, have the competent entity contact identity.infosapienza@uniroma1.it.

My password seems to no longer work (and my email account is disabled)

The lifecycle of users not yet managed by IDM depends on the legacy system managed by the postmaster. Disabling the email account also results in the suspension of credentials. To verify if this is the case, try accessing uniroma1 email with SPID/CIE (or with student credentials and 'Work As', if you have a "dual" profile like doctoral students). If you successfully log in and see a message stating "The account has been disabled," please contact supportomail@uniroma1.it directly.

Note: Account deactivation typically occurs due to failure to respond to the census, meaning three emails were received and ignored that notified the need to confirm continued rights to the institutional mailbox and its usage. Messages meeting the described criteria on the page and containing links to mail.uniroma1.it (verify the page address and browser security 'padlock') ARE NOT phishing attempts.

How to Request Assistance

Before contacting support, please try TO:

  • Repeat the action that caused the issue from a different browser or incognito window.
  • Avoid performing a password reset unless there is an actual issue related to a forgotten password.

When writing a support request:

  • If possible, write from your institutional email address. If not, include your full name, student ID, and tax code in the email.
  • ALWAYS attach a screenshot showing the error message for which you need assistance.
  • Clearly indicate the service you are trying to access by providing the URL used (service URL, NOT the authentication URL redirected to idp.uniroma1.it).

Examples of Effective Requests:

  1. Attempting to access application XXXX with URL https://xxxx.uniroma.it/Home/ results in the following error: [error screenshot]
  2. Attempting to access application XXXX with URL https://xxxx.uniroma.it/Home/ after being correctly redirected to the IDP login, using username pinco.pallo‌@uniroma1.it, results in the attached error.
  3. Attempting to reset the password from the "Password Recovery for Staff" link on the login screen with identifier "pinco.pallo17‌@gmail.com" results in the following error: [error screenshot]
  4. Logging into application XXXX with URL https://xxxx.uniroma.it/Home/ after successfully logging in with username pinco.pallo‌@uniroma1.it results in the attached error. I understand this may seem like a non-issue as clarified in the FAQs that application errors should be verified with application managers, but I cannot find a reference for the application. Therefore, I request guidance to the appropriate contact.
  5. Trying with Chrome/Edge/FireFox/Safari on my PC/Android phone/iPhone [application path and relevant data description] results in the attached error. I have tried from another browser/device and the error does not occur. Can you please advise on how to resolve this?
